Women, Feminism, Theology

The main topic of the 27th issue of Bread &Roses is «Women, Feminism, Theology». Next to texts by Maca Jogan, «How to Be a Human In a Special Way», Leonardo Kovacevic, «Believing Means Being Engaged to Revolution - a Feminist Atheology by Dorothee Sölle, and two texts by Dorothee Sölle, there is also an interview with Croatian theologist Rebeka Anic «For a New Theological Anthropology». This part is accompanied by a standard list of books from Women's Infoteka related to the topic women and theology.
This issue also presents a longer essay by Daša Drndic «Feminist Handwriting or Political Parable: Lillian Hellman».
Besides always interesting accounts and reviews, there are also our standard sections: Who are they? What are they doing?, which presents the work of women's group PRST, then there are News and Calendar, with up-to-date information about the events that have occurred and those that are already about to happen.

No. 28

Women migrants

Besides three texts on this topic: «Settled in Mobility: Engendering Post-Wall Migration in Europe» by Mirjana Morokvašić, «Austria and Women Migrants from ex-Yugoslavia» by Vlatka Frketić, «No Laws Apply on Us» by Andrea Brandt et a., you can also find texts that can help to bring this topic into feminist-legal theory perspective: «The Legislative Changes Ragarding the Status of Women in Croatia and its Implementation» and «Feminist Legal Theories» by Ivana Radačić. This part is accompanied by a standard list of books from the library of Women's Infoteque related to the topic of women migrants.
In an intervju with Malathi de Alwis, sociologist and antropologist from Sri Lanka, we discusse similar effects which come as a result of both war and natural disasters. The new issue also brings a review of the book «On the Uses of the Women's and Cultural Clio for Living, or from 'Moist Crones' to Women Activists» edited by Andrea Feldman, and a review of the round table: «Social Stigmatization of Women»– an Example of Women's Reproductive Rights». A standard section «Who Are They? What Are They Doing?» presents the work of a feminist group «Virdžine i Kirke». In the section «Calender» you can find information about conferences on feminist topics which are going to take place this year throughout Europe.

No. 29

Queer

No. 29 of the magazine "Bread&Roses", the main topic of which is 'queer', brings the following articles: "Social Construction of Heterosexuality" by Ana Lena Stipančić, " The Subversion of 'the Norm' of Moving Away from the Norms" by Trpimir Matasović and "Why Do We Live in Love but Still Run Away?" by Vesna Matijaš Rakonjac. As suggested by the names of the texts, they deal with the different aspects of 'queer'. One is about the social understanding of human sexual practices, their variants, goals and meanings that differ in time and from culture to culture (Stipančić). In the other paper the author searches for the elements of 'queer' in the so-called artistic music of the West and points out that this phrase is just a politically correct term for the music that is commonly called 'classsical' (Matasović). The third is a short essay in which sexual passion is considered to be a special sort of property gained by technique, appearence, social power or a new partner (Matijaš Rakonjac).

No. 30

Eco-feminism

The main topic of the 30th issue of «Bread & Roses» is Eco-Feminism. We are announcing following papers: «Colonising People and Nature» by Ivanka Buzov, «How the Environment Became a Feminist Issue or what is Eco-Feminism, Really?» and «The Controversies of Cultural Eco-Feminism» by Marija Geiger, «Female Bodies, Reproduction and Social Stigmatisation of Women» by Branka Galić and «The Power and Promise of Ecological Feminism» by Karen J. Warren. As suggested by the titles, papers deal with binding domination over women and domination over nature as «the original others» (I. Buzov); the ability to manipulate women through reproduction treatments and reproduction politics in modern science (B. Galić); conroversies of eco-feminism (M. Geiger) as well as it's creation of the frame for re-understanding feminism (K. J. Warren).
Besides the selection of books on eco-feminism from Women's Infoteka library, you can also find the review article «Three Women and the History» by Lijerka Damjanov-Pintar and information about Cunterview – portal of women's arts in Croatia.

No. 31

31st issue of magazine »Bread and Roses«, under the title Key Words: festival, women, feminism, queer gathered documentation on Croatian FemFest and feminist and queer festivals of the region. We published Alenka Spacal’s paper »Feminism Opposite the ‘Eternal Female’« which contains an analysis of the relation of the category ‘feminist’, which she understands as a political category, opposed to the category of ‘female’, which she understands as essentialist. The basic thesis of Đurđa Knežević in her text »From Feminism to Feminism – Two Steps Back, One Step Forward, or: Feminists Facing Retirement« is that the first feminist wave had a subversive charge, contrary to the second wave, which has lost a critical theoretical (and political) position. Marina Butorac, Tanja Ratković, Ana Jelušić and Lea Jurišić presented last year’s FemFest. After that we have presentations of festivals from Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia – Rdeče zore, Pitchwise and Queer Beograd, review of a book Gracia Mendes’ Long Journey by Marija Geiger and account of Darija Žilić – »The Mine«.

No. 32

Like everybody else, we are also haunted by the elections these days. But, fortunatelly, there is life after the elections, so that we hope that the topics of this issue will help that the feminist politics, as also the women politics will be bether understood in the croatian society, and among ourselves. The issue contains interviews with Bojana Genov, the coordinator of Croatian womans web, then with Mirjana Ferić Vac, the member and candidate of the SDP on the elections, and with Vesna Pusić, the president of HNS. Beside that, as adition to the issue, we published the report of the state of human rights in Croatia for the year 2006. There are, further, book reviews and itinerary.
